Guided tours Bellecour
Tour proposed by ONLYLYON Tourisme et Congrès

The origins of the Hospices Civils de Lyon hospital centre

Discover the fascinating past of two iconic buildings in Lyon’s Presqu'île district: the remaining bell tower of Hôpital de la Charité, which was demolished in the 1930s, and the recently renovated Hôtel-Dieu.

With your tour guide, take a trip through the history of medicine in Lyon, including the stories of major figures who practised here and an exploration of collections of local medical equipment.
This is a unique chance to understand the workings of these two former medical institutions, which led to the creation of the Hospices Civils de Lyon.

This guided tour also explains how patients were cared for and treatments were administered in Lyon through the ages, and also presents some occasionally surprising remedies.
