Following the trail left by street artist Ememem
Croix-Rousse hill, and its slopes in particular, has nurtured an artistic spirit for centuries now. Historically inhabited by the ‘Canuts’ (Lyon’s nineteenth-century silk workers), this district is now a thriving centre of street art.
Many street artists have turned the slopes of Croix-Rousse hill (known locally as ‘Les Pentes’) into their canvas, brightening up walls with their colourful works.
Your guide will take you on a discovery tour of the street artist Ememem’s works, to see a different side of Croix-Rousse hill.
A local artist, Ememem is known for his “flacking”, the name for a technique he invented, which involves filling holes in the cityscape with ceramics and other materials.
He has been embellishing the city’s streets with this urban artform since 2016.
Ememem’s flackings offer an original way to experience the Croix Rousse district, with its village atmosphere in the heart of Lyon.
Set off from Vieux-Lyon (Old Lyon) on an electric bike, ride along the winding path of the Saône, and climb the slopes of Croix-Rousse hill, where you can explore its streets and discover its main attractions.

Healing scars in the street
Ememem coined the word ‘flacking’ as a name for his new art of “repairing holes”. This artist is an asphalt surgeon, a pavement poet, and a master in the art of creating beautiful patches.
