Excellent walking tour and wine tasting in Lyon
by alan
My wife and I booked this tour to tag on a weekend to a business trip and for something interesting to while visiting Lyon in late January. We would have liked to visit some nearby vineyards but they weren’t open until April. Our guide, Valentin, met us outside the tourist office in the city centre and took us for a short, easy walking tour of the old town, talking about the history of Lyon and exploring some of the beautiful streets and narrow alleyways between the buildings, which we would never have found on our own. We were taken to an apartment in the old town where we were given a platter of meats and cheeses, and a very good selection of 7-8 wines. Valentin is a fully trained sommelier and has an excellent knowledge of wines from the whole of France. He also gave us some tips about where to eat, at the traditional bouchons and other restaurants, and where to find some good wine bars around the city, and even some tips for a trip to Paris later in the year. It made it so much easier for us that Valentin spoke excellent English too. A great little tour, so this made our first trip to Lyon so much more enjoyable. Thanks Valentin! Highly recommended
