In the heart of the Vieux-Lyon
Take a historical tour of Medieval and Renaissance Lyon.
From the church of Saint Paul to that of Saint Georges, Vieux-Lyon extends over 24 hectares along the banks of the Saône.
The tour begins with a walk through the narrow cobbled alleyways! This guided tour reveals superbly renovated architectural treasures: internal courtyards, Italian-style galleries, wells, spiral staircases...
Along the way you'll encounter essential monuments such as La Maison du Chamarier, the Hôtel de Gadagne or La Loge du Change.
Explore the remains of the churches of Sainte Croix and Saint Etienne backing onto Saint Jean, which is truly symbolic of the power of the church in Lyon at that time.
Your guide will tell you the secrets and anecdotes which have made the reputation of this historical district, the 1st preserved sector in France to have been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List.

Worthwhile introduction to Old Lyon
by stuartmortimer
An interesting two-hour walking tour of Lyon Old Town. Our friendly female guide showed us a variety of sights and offered some detailed commentary, telling us plenty of stories along the way. I felt we perhaps lingered too long in certain places (eg inside the cathedral - whilst this was clearly worth seeing, it was a major tourist sight about which there was plenty of readily available information) whereas I would have liked to have spent longer exploring more obscure places (eg a greater selection of the traboules) for which a trained human guide was invaluable. We covered a relatively narrow area of the Old Town and I had expected us to penetrate further and see more streets than we actually did. Our guide was quite difficult to spot in the middle of the crowds when we moved from one place to another, and she would have done us all a favour by wearing a colourful hat or waving a brightly-coloured umbrella! Having said all this, I am glad to have done the tour and I certainly came away knowing a lot more about Old Lyon than I did before.
Lyon has been amazing

Super useful, maybe recycle the cards?
by sara
Highly recommended, allows you to travel for free around the city and visit so much (either for free or with a discount), super convenient! Would be nice to have collection points where you can leave the card once you don't need it anymore (maybe it could be re-used somehow?) or to simply have a digital card!
Wonderful Tour of Old Lyon
by robin - melange travel
This was a very informative and interesting tour of Vieux Lyon. As a travel consultant, who specializes in France and food, I came to Lyon for a research trip, mostly for the the food, but would highly recommend this tour for a bit of history, visit to a church and to learn about the traboules. It was also fun to "traboule" ( yes, it's also a verb!) through several of the covered passageways in Old Lyon. Our guide was fun, informative, engaging and spoke English very well. I'll highly recommend this to clients. And it's included in the Lyon City Card, which makes it a great value!
Impressive overview
by george
On this 2 hour tour, we visited the cathedral and covered passageways (traboules). The tour guide went into a lot of detail about the history and architecture of these sites, but also provide us with very useful information of the present day use and challenges. Without her guidance, we would not have had such a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the area. We would also not have found the hidden passageways on our own. Although we were a big group and the area very busy with visitors, we could always follow and hear her easily thanks to the headphones. I would recommend this tour to any first time visitor to Lyon. Those that have been there before, may also learn new things from this tour.

In depth knowledge of the city
by mlm
Our guide was informed, articulate and patient in explaining various aspects of Vieux Lyon. The area itself is fascinating, if now rather over run with tourist shops, restaurants, etc.
A bit more information on how the campaign to "save" the quartier from modernization was successful, what tactics were used, etc. would have been interesting too.
