Lugdunum, museum and roman theaters
Once upon a time... Lugdunum !
Lyon-Fourvière's Gazllo roman museum and theaters occupy the ssummit of the Fourvière Hill, formerly at the center of Lugdunum, an economic and religious metropolis in Roman Gaul
Opening its doors in 1975, the architect, Bernard Zehrfuss, winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1939, designed a building that integrates perfectly into the archeological site.
The row concrete architecture, very sober, sets off the pieces and adds to the spacial and thematic links: an open well above a mosaîc links habitat and religion, while the wide bay windows, the "light canons", introduce ancient theaters into the exhibition.
